At first there was no guidance. Although MicroCapture Plus 1.01 software is easy to install, it is very limited. An empty zoom box will not accept a value, so the crosshair will get stuck at the default value. And the default setting is such that even a US penny more than fills the screen when the microscope is in its maximum position on the tripod. So I have to put the whole unit in a 4 inch box and rotate the microscope to the back of the tripod to make it higher up on the object being viewed. I. There is no white balance control, so even the whitest background sheet will appear a different color (usually pink or greyish) depending on the color of the object being viewed/photographed no matter what I do. Other than that, ease of use, magnification (default), and image quality are very good. Finally, the MicroCapture Pro software update I found on the internet doesn't work because it doesn't recognize the microscope. I want to buy another microscope.
