I bought this for hiking and cycling as it's smaller and lighter than those sold for that purpose. It was the easiest thing I could find on Amazon. Used it a few times over a gas flame and it worked well. Just pancakes, eggs and spam. Lightly fried vegetables. I use some oil and am very careful not to burn it because cleaning up in the woods is a pain. It's a luxury item, not a necessity for me, but I'm sure some of my friends will want it when I go out with a group again. Very happy with it. Not sure about durability but so far it's holding up in worse conditions than your apartment.
