Water soluble makes these pens so fun and versatile

Water soluble makes these pens so fun. This is technically called paper chromatography. With slow wetting, the pigment slips with the spread of water. This works best with porous paper like a coffee filter or paper towel. I wrote the names on a paper towel and then placed the towel in a glass that was only 1/4 full of water. Water and color increased with some color separation. Lots of fun with my little grandson because his rough drawings were blacked out but looked fun when spread out. Suggestion to let the water creep slowly. Maybe he just dropped an eyeful of water on the coffee filter in the bowl or poured it over a small mug. Filters are so cheap that you can just let your little one try different things. Maybe he's pouring too much water. No problem, let's try again. For the more serious artist, this is a handy way to add some color to a sketch. See my still raw quick example. A small marker can be diluted with water and a brush. Pay special attention to how the hint of black can be pulled out for a quick shadow.
