Lots of power but not 1000 watts

I bought this 1000 watt amp to fit in the Cooler Boombox I was building . Along with the amp I also bought four 6.5" 400w midrange drivers and a 12" 600w subwoofer, all Pyle Hydra Marine. I also bought a bluetooth audio receiver with RCA connectors. It was installed in an Igloo All Terrain Marine cooler with air filled rubber tires with plenty of clearance for rocky gravel bars along the river. I hooked up all four mids on one side of the amp and hooked up the subwoofer on the other side. It's all powered by a 12V, 101 amp-hour deep-cycle marine battery that powers the unit for eight hours without ever turning off. It can't be a real 1000 watt amplifier and I knew that when I bought it. But it delivers enough power to make the 12 very strong and the mids amazing. I had to add a gasket around the lid and heavier metal fasteners to the radiator to reduce vibration and rattling from the subwoofer. The combination of amp, speakers, battery, and cooler size resulted in one of the best mobile systems I've heard. Impossible to take it anywhere without people stopping me to check it out. While sailing Missouri's amazing Meramec River, the box bounces up and down the river in ways you won't believe. The party also has its own boat, which I pull about 15 meters behind me. I use an iPod in a waterproof neck case that connects to the device via Bluetooth. This is definitely the coolest thing to do on a river or camp.

Pros
  • Variable high and low pass filters with crossover mode selector
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
