This film completely blocks out all light. I installed it on a south facing window and a west facing window and the bedroom is now completely dark during the day. It is also an excellent insulator. I was able to put it on the windows myself, I just needed a second person to help me remove the protective film. A few tips: use the sharp tip of a knife (e.g. an Xacto knife) to separate the films in the corner; Be sure to put some liquid on the window to help adjust the film. I used a degreaser spray similar to the 409 (most of the liquid will come out once the film is smoothed, so be sure to have a rag handy); and use a flat plastic card to flatten the foil, e.g. B. a hotel room key or an employee ID card. Buy more to close pantry windows (who builds pantry windows?!).
