That'll be fine until the last mechanic who installed the filter digs in and overtightens like so many do. If the filter has been overtightened, this wrench may not work. It is slightly larger than the filter itself, which is not a problem if the filter is tightened to specification; but it will round corners if the filter has been overdrawn. If this is the case then you really have no choice but to remove the cover and remove the filter using a Jay type oil filter wrench or a strap. In short, if you're doing your own oil changes (which you probably are, given your look at this tool), you should be fine with that, except maybe for the first time you remove the filter. If it was screwed correctly you wouldn't have any problems. If it was twisted by a gorilla in a mechanic's uniform, you could be in trouble. Richard.
