Review on Combining Hollow Wall Drywall Drilling by Brandon Vox

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Simple, Strong, Precise

These 1/2-thick metal drywall screw wall mounts work great. They are easy to install, durable and hold up well. I use them for small shelves, paintings, wall hangings and artwork. Notice I said drywall. Using these metal dowels on plaster and batten or metal mesh plaster can be a tiresome adventure and is not recommended, at least for me. Use toggle screws or plastic screws for plaster and battens, not these metal anchors. The photo shows a typical plastic plug insert (yellow). They are suitable for hard walls such as brick and cement. I don't have much confidence in them at 1/2" or 5/8" thick drywall. They also need to be pre-drilled while these metal wall anchors are self-drilling. A little tip that might help from my experience. I always gently clamp these anchors in a machinist's vice and screw the anchor in and out a few times before installing it into the drywall. Why? Because sometimes the included screws can cause the metal dowel to twist, sticking it outside of the paper into the drywall and destroying the hole. Then you need to fix some work and/or move it to a new location on the wall. This is especially necessary if you are using screws that are NOT supplied with these metal anchors, such as B. the black screws for the black bracket. Hope that helps!
