Large anchors work well, small ones not so much.

I used smaller anchors with screws. Not only do they not screw all the way down, they also don't bite as well as the larger ones. They worked great. I only had a few turns after putting a screw in and then trying to unscrew it from the anchor causing the anchor to come out with the screw. I have smaller anchors for fasteners that require smaller screws. I will look for another manufacturer. I've used white before, rarely had any problems, this style should be better.

I do not recommend this brand

I have used various brands of metal wall anchors and hung hundreds of shelves, picture frames and other items. These are some of the worst wall anchors I've ever used. Their tips break off too easily when screwed in, causing problems. I needed 3 of these just to have ONE of these in the wall and by then I was able to hang the shelf where I wanted due to the holes in the wall (which now need patching). Not all of them are bad, so some of them work just fine, but it's a coincidence or like a box…

Inferior copies of the original

I have been using this type of anchor for decades. These are copies of the original design and are not as well made. I couldn't screw in the dowels by hand before assembly like I did with the originals. The country of origin is not indicated on the packaging. The original design is from Buildex and is called EX-Ancor (note the lack of the "h" in Ancor). It looks like Buildex is now part of ITW Brands, so the anchors could go by that name. They cost more but I'll send them back and get the…

Great if you respect your limits

As for self-drilling anchors, they are completely ordinary. Pre-drilling the pilot holes definitely helps prevent tip breakage, but they are no more or less brittle than other brands of anchors I've worked with. a hard tug can pry them out of the drywall. If a cornice had fallen on my head for being a lazy idiot who thought it was okay. And when they sink - oh my god they leave a hole. Much more than when the pop-up switch is released. Bottom line: They're great for hanging pictures, maybe a…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design

Super easy to use

This is a great option instead of pre-drilling holes in the drywall and installing those stupid plastic anchors that may or may not end up falling out. They need to be hammered in a bit first and you need to make sure you don't hit the stud or any metal wall inserts as that would break the tip. They are strong but somewhat fragile. I discovered this the hard way trying to insert it where the bolt appeared to be. It made a big hole but wouldn't stay and the tip broke off so I had to pre-drill a…

Simple, Strong, Precise

These 1/2-thick metal drywall screw wall mounts work great. They are easy to install, durable and hold up well. I use them for small shelves, paintings, wall hangings and artwork. Notice I said drywall. Using these metal dowels on plaster and batten or metal mesh plaster can be a tiresome adventure and is not recommended, at least for me. Use toggle screws or plastic screws for plaster and battens, not these metal anchors. The photo shows a typical plastic plug insert (yellow). They are…
