I "collect” rainwater for cooking and drinking. Thus, strictly speaking, it is a time-saving operation. I go through several stages of filtration to avoid clogging the filters. First through a 25 micron Duda filter (fits a 5 gallon bucket), then through a 1 micron "sock", then this 0.5 micron flat sheet cut so that it fits in the filter that fits over the bucket. Then filtered through Lifestraw "Family 1.0" and finally through the standard Brita filter. For direct drinking and cold drinks I use an additional cooking step. Sounds complicated and time consuming, but the first two steps are quick, seconds to minutes. It slows down with that 0.5 micron filter and the Lifestraw filter in that order. Cooking doesn't matter as I only make ½ gallon or two a month. The payback lies in a significant improvement in the taste of any drink or food you can imagine requiring water. Now I make the best coffee! Bottom line, this filter even filters down to a 1 micron sock!
