Probably the best mercury lamp on the market. Is it more expensive than others? Yes. It also lasts twice as long and breaks down much more slowly. It doesn't generate much heat. So if you have a desert reptile that needs a really hot spot to bask, it may need assistance. I use it 9 inches from the heat point with a 175w par 38 fixture to get the 150 degrees my akki needs. Spend a few extra dollars, follow the instructions to set it up properly, and replace it once a year. Do not do that. Waste your time or money on other mediocre lights, just buy one of these and you're done. Your scaly friends will thank you
