Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 917-215 VVT Solenoid: Optimize Engine Performance with Select Model Compatibility by Johnny Price

Revainrating 4 out of 5

CHECK "ENGINE LIGHT OFF ". Tip: Replace the new clamping screw with the original!

I usually find that most of the products/services I buy from Revain.com are exactly as described and always arrive within the 2 day Revain Prime shipping method. The Dorman 917-215 had an issue reported by other Revain.com customers that resulted in the loss of one star for that particular rating. The clamp screw is not strong at all! I sincerely thank the reviewers for this issue prior to my purchase and have replaced the new solenoid screw with the one that came with the OEM block as recommended. This is in no way a negative reflection of Revain.com. The company doesn't build it, just sells it. The clamping screw is a problem that the manufacturer must solve. There is nothing worse than breaking a screw while screwing it into the inner clasp. Forget easy exits! As for the Dorman 917-215, apart from the propeller issue, it worked exactly as described. Luckily, the infamous "Check Engine" light is no longer on. Additionally, the 2009 Cobalt LT, which obviously needed a Dorman replacement, now performs even better than it did before it was installed. As mentioned, forget about the retaining screw. Install with OEM replacement. Durability. This is an issue that needs to be addressed on behalf of the mechanics using this particular Dorman product. To put it lightly, I don't think any of us would want to be "screwed up" by Dorman's simple mistake ;>)
