When I need to sand a piece of wood or steel to clean and smooth the surface the flap sander is there is a good choice when the area is small. This is a good selection of fairly coarse 80 grit aluminum oxide grinders in 8 different sizes, 2 for each size of 3.2", 2.4", 2", 1.6", 1.2" , 1", 0.8" to 0.64" (that's 80mm to 16mm). ). They all come with 1/4" shanks about 1" long. Picture 1 shows the range which also includes 8 cone mills in 4 sizes which is a bit different. Photo 3 after. It does a good job with any drill that doesn't exceed its rated RPM (8000 for a larger flap sander). They can be used with most rotary power tools. They are much safer to use than a coarse wire brush, but are slower and less aggressive. They shed threads and debris as the petals wear down, as well as debris from the sanded surface. ALWAYS USE EYE PROTECTION! High-speed rotating tools WILL throw debris that can cause serious injury! To prep and smooth a larger area I would use a different product e.g. B. a sanding grid.
