I moved it from the front to the back of my DIY tower PC and it was recognized but still no sound. First, the lock button on the base is PRESSED to turn on the MIC. There were no instructions explaining how the mute button works. I then set the microphone properties in Windows 10 settings to 100% volume, +30dB gain, and enabled noise cancellation and acoustic echo cancellation (simply because I had the choice to do so). I then set up Cortana so that "she" responds when I say "Hey Cortana". It also works with +20dB gain when I'm a foot or two away from it, but I have it about 4 feet behind my monitor. . I was able to reduce the hum by rerouting the cord from my power strip and electrical wires. Overall it was worth the price I paid as an add-on.
