No PoE support. Otherwise looks like a good power strip

I have received an HD-EXC400-K which looks like the picture above but the name and description is for the HD-EX-400KIT with PoE support. Support and costs around $40 on the OREI website. The model they sent me doesn't support PoE so I couldn't use it. Otherwise it corresponds to the description. As what I received didn't meet my needs I wasn't able to use it and can't comment on how well it works for video expansion, but the set looks well built, with a thick metal body that feels solid. The kit includes metal brackets/ears that you can use to mount the devices to the wall. The kit includes two DC5V/1A wall adapters. Wall adapters are small - about the size of an iPhone wall charger. I thought my devices were defective when I plugged them in because the power light wouldn't come on, but turns out the manufacturer simply forgot to drill a hole for the power light. This is probably for the best (or maybe even intentional) because when I looked through a slit in the case I saw that they use a very bright blue LED, which is likely to be very distracting in a dark room. According to the manual, the transmitter can transmit a 1080p 60Hz signal up to 80m over Cat5 cable, 100m over Cat5e or 120m over Cat6 Ethernet cable (or up to 150m with "high quality" cable). The transmitter and receiver can be connected directly with a single cable or with a standard network switch, increasing range and allowing one transmitter to send data to multiple receivers. The instructions do not contain any information on how to set up IP addresses, which ports are used or any other IP connection details. They say the devices use something called "ProLNK" transmission technology, but I have no idea what that is and couldn't find any reference to it other than on the OREI website. The manual lists 1080p @ 60Hz as the highest supported resolution. , but the description on OREI website also includes 4K@30hz. The transmitter has both HDMI in and out, which isn't explained in the manual, but it seems the device can be used as both a splitter and an extender. Also note that the seller "Bombay Electronics" appears to be a different name for OREI since they share a mailing address.

Pros
  • Remote controlled power strips
Cons
  • Commercial availability
