Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Enhance Your Workstation Efficiency with the StarTech.com 4 Port USB VGA KVM Switch - DDM Fast Switching Technology & Cables by Anthony Cano

USB KVM Outstanding Score

I wanted to add a USB KVM Switch to my computer network by replacing the PS/2 KVM Switch. One of the key requirements was a rack-mounted desktop clear switch. I researched various switches and settled on StarTech KVM because the multi-star reviews were positive and the multiple 1 and 2 stars focused on missing some features that people needed. Since I didn't need these features (hot switching from the keyboard), I chose StarTech. And it was a great choice. In terms of construction, it's rock solid, thick metal rather than plastic. The optional 1U rack mounting kit worked great. The assembly and setup went like silk. A few notes: This KVM switch uses standard video and USB cables between the switch and the computers. The USB cable is AB male and the VGA is a standard 15-pin MF cable. You can buy StarTech cable sets (6ft fits my rack perfectly), but you can also use your own cables. StarTech's cable sets are durable and somewhat stiff. So if you need flexibility or less than 6 feet in length (e.g. for a desktop computer), coil the cables yourself. An optional power adapter is also provided to power the USB hub (USB 2) if you intend to switch USP peripherals other than keyboard and mouse between computers/servers. For me this was a great find and fulfilled the desire to tidy up my basement shelf. UPDATE: Decided to order a second StarTech 4-port switch on purpose as no special wiring was required. USB AB cable and MF VGA cable only. In this case, it's a non-rack application with shorter 3-foot cables. I am very pleased! UPDATE 2: I'm still very happy with this KVM switch and would highly recommend it.
