Review on 🥤 Revolutionize your beverages with CarbaCap: A Carbonation System for CO2 Coupling to Carbonate Soda, Beer, Juice, Water! by Melissa Dufour

Good drink cap with a few flaws

I bought three of these about a year ago and now that I've used them for a while I feel comfortable giving a review. I have problems. Screw them onto a soda bottle to get a good seal. It looks like you'll have to loosen and retighten it a bit, maybe to line up the threads perfectly so it seals. Maybe it's a problem with the bottle, but it happens often. One of the carbacaps seems to work better than the other two in this regard. Then there is a problem with pressing the ball check valve. I use 2 liter bottles. I usually squeeze all the air out of the bottle before unscrewing the carbacap. This leaves the bottle in a very weak state. Pressing on the carbacap is much easier on the pressureless line. When the line is pressurized you have to push a lot harder, which usually causes the bottle to flex rather than be supported by the air inside. To get around this, I pressurize the line and shut off the CO2 supply. This provides enough pressure to inflate the CO2 cylinder and depressurizes the line so the valve can be easily slid onto the Carbacap. At this point, I turn the gas back on and shake off. There is a small issue with a few drops of water oozing out when I shake, but I don't consider that a deal breaker. It is in order. Finally, there is the problem of disabling the carbacap valve. It's surprisingly difficult. I'm expecting the 90psi pressure inside to just kick off. But instead, the ball valve somehow ruins the plastic. Over time, like a few months, it becomes more and more difficult to remove the valve from the Carbacup. I have resorted to smearing Carbacap with saliva, oil, etc. to relieve it. If at some point the plastic gets rough enough, it will be almost impossible for an adult to pull the valve out of the Carbacap. Perhaps sanding the plastic would ease this problem, but who has the time for that? Those issues aside, Carbacap does an excellent job. I love making my own sparkling water and this lid has made that possible for me for the last year or so. However, now I need to "graduate" to buy metal and see if they have less problems.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No effect
