Software will not connect to device

The software comes on a small 80mm CD that Windows 10 was unable to read until the fourth try. I installed the USB drivers and software application with no problems, but the desktop icon did not appear. I found the Extech folder in Program Files (x86). Windows Defender first prevented DataLogger.exe from running. After that, there are four buttons: Connect, View File, About, and Exit. Selecting "Connect" (if the RHT10 is connected to a USB 2.0 port) will open a blank window with a menu. Selecting Link/Logger Set opens a parameter settings window with a title beginning with "Connection". and switches to "Connected" after a moment. Sounds good! However, setting some options and clicking "Setting" pauses for a few seconds, and then the title changes to "Connected (Responding)". No action I tried was able to establish a connection between hardware and software, except that when I disabled the RHT10, the popup announced "Data Logger Disabled!". Pooh! On the 14th attempt to connect and set up, it finally worked and I got the "Press the orange button to start" popup. It might be great hardware, but the software feels amateurish at best.
