NO Separate control for RED. That's right, to get to red light so you don't blind anyone, you have to step through 4 white light modes. That may not be a big deal for many of you who don't hunt, camp, or use low light levels to avoid attention in general. The unit is well made, appears to be rugged enough and rubberized enough to be shock resistant and water resistant. The power is adequate and it comes with a USB charging cable. All very nice. The headband is adjustable and has a 'top band,' so the unit will stay in place. It has a nice "diffuser" lens that you can slide over the white or red LED to scatter the light if you need more spread of beam. Those are all well thought out features, and this IS a nice unit. I'd have given it 5 stars if there had been a separate control to engage the RED LED.
