edges if you want it to be cozy. For my purpose I use it on a hanging joist where the joists rest on tape. The tape is slightly glued to the joist by itself, but not actually glued to the edges. It would probably hold up better if I didn't set it to a 40 degree day. I've tried routing it along the vertical edge of the beam but it doesn't hold up really well, I'll use clamps there. This tape works, the backing paper came off easily (some have complained this is an issue with other brands) and it protects my beam so I'm very happy with it. I just wish the glue worked better at lower temperatures.
