Review on 🌐 Enhanced SURFboard mAX Pro Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System by Damion Pasquale

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Easy setup but new medium coverage satellite system technology.

Last update: return. The connection keeps dropping and Arris blames my Xfinity modem. But it's been years without problems with the Xfinity and my Apple Airport Extreme, and now I'm back with no problems. Stay away from this device! Update: Router turns off Wi-Fi randomly and about once every 5 minutes or so. Drive the kids and me crazy. You may have to go back if they don't fix the firmware in the near future. There are no logs or troubleshooting in the app, so there's no way of knowing what's going on to even complain about Arris. ASAP, but if you don't have a reliable connection, that's debatable. Also, with 2 packs I have the same coverage as my old Apple AirPort Extreme. I switched back and forth to check signal strength with Netspot and the Extreme is still on par with the W31 after 5 years and never drops the connection. The W31 is faster but doesn't give me more range, even though I have 2 of these and they randomly turn off. Original rating. This router just came out and is easy to set up with an app, although I wish I had an app for Windows 10 too, but it's not out yet. I don't see any major issues, but you can wait until they have new firmware to fix some minor issues. Below are a few things to keep in mind at the same time. I have a 2200 square foot house and theoretically each unit should be 3000 square feet. I bought a pack of 2 W31's which should give me 6,000 square feet of coverage. I think they overestimate the coverage and it's more like 1500 square feet on a W31 with walls etc in the 2.4G range. In the 5G band, coverage is closer to around 800 square feet if you need more than 50% of the signal and your ISP's full bandwidth (I have 250Mbps service). I believe this applies to any brand or type of Wi-Fi router you buy as performance is limited by the FCC which is why people buy mesh systems in the first place. You cannot set up a range of IP addresses. The default value is 192.168.7.xxx. So if you have IP cameras and other components with static IP addresses, you will need to reconfigure them all to the new IP address range. You cannot change channels. I don't have any problems with my neighbors because the router picked a channel that isn't busy, but if you live in an apartment or other area with high Wi-Fi density, you may have problems and not be able to change channels . Parental controls are simple temporary locks and pauses. Good for limiting screen time, but you'll still need to use OpenDNS or similar if you want other security features to block access to unwanted websites. You cannot rename devices on the network. So if you have devices that don't have NetBIOS names, you only get the MAC address and the IP address without knowing which device it is. It's not the router's fault, but it would certainly help if you could rename devices so you know what's on your network and make better use of parental controls on those devices.

Pros
  • While everyone likes it
Cons
  • flimsy
