My 5 year old son kept complaining about irritation after a day at the beach so we gave it a try and no more problems! My son is on the smaller end, still wears 4T sizes comfortably. They fit him a little better than a 4T Cat & Jack or Carter shorts if that helps! Not that big, we needed a different size. The inner layer of the shorts wasn't tight, but thin enough that it didn't rub against the thighs and groin. He really liked them and ended up buying him a second pair.
