The concept is better than reality

I really like that very much. I wanted to test this with my sister's gift plan. Unfortunately I won't. The thing consists of two parts: the base and the spindle. The spindle rotates when you pull the yarn. First the base: it comes with four non-stick dots that you attach to the bottom. This is not enough to prevent the base from slipping when pulled. I tried different surfaces: glass, vinyl, granite, wood. Same result. And if it doesn't slip, it will tip over. Spindle: Not high enough. Not smooth enough to spin. The yarn will twist if you pull it very gently, but it will spin around the spindle, not with it. And if you don't pull slowly and carefully, everything will tip over. And that's in 5 ounce skeins, which are pretty small. So a larger strand doesn't fit at all. Generally, for a skein that I haven't balled (which I hate), it works better than a bowl of yarn. But hardly.
