This is my first carrier so I have no comparison. The only reason for four stars is that there are no real instructions on how to use it, I'll admit you don't need any instructions. I've experimented with several knives and at first didn't feel it did anything to improve the blade left behind by my utility knife and sharpener. At some point, I realized that if I applied a lot more pressure, it would work for me. I pressed the knife blade lightly, as if polishing my car.
