This whisk does not consist of a conventional retractable shaft that allows quick length changes, but of modular parts that can be assembled to create different lengths. It's not as convenient if you want to take it with you and disassemble it in your bag every time, but it's lighter than a standard extension of the same length. I just keep mine together at the second longest length and keep them in the trunk. So far it feels pretty solid and the foam grips are good for a secure grip.
