Revainrating 2 out of 5

Much better than our Anderson Storm.

Update: About a month later these things started behaving the same as the closers that came with it. The door closes 80% instantly and the last 20% softly. Got another pair under warranty and they lasted a few months before returning so I gave up. I found that when I removed one (there were 2 on the door) everything was fine. Not great but okay. Let's fast forward. We moved last year and I just installed a new front door. Same problem. Decided to do some more research. There are two types of storm closers. Pneumatic, air based and hydraulic, liquid based. I ordered a hydraulic closer and the difference is between day and night. If you need a soft close at 10% of the door open, you need a hydraulic actuator. Don't worry about touch and hold. It is pneumatic and will encounter the same problem as your current closer. Look for hydraulic closers and try one of these. Original rating: Day1. Much better than the closer that came with our Anderson storm door. They look exactly the same, but Anderson's arrangement is typical; close as fast as you can and then hop up for a while. Touch n Hold was smooth all the way. Good and slow. Love it! The clips I received are plastic, although the manufacturer indicated in another review that they have been replaced with metal. I use the clamps that come with it, but that might be a problem. The plastic clips feel bulky but I wouldn't trust them.

Pros
  • SOFT CLOSING - Patented soft-closing technology eliminates the thump of a closing door and allows for an easy walk-through.
Cons
  • Good but not great
