This product forms hair-like metal shavings (but dangerously sharp and rough) around food that is dangerous to digest. These chips are difficult to handle, clean, contain and track. The metal shavings either fall off or stick to the rim of the glass, waiting to be swallowed by the food they come into contact with. Therefore, before safely emptying a soup can, you must manually pick up any metal shavings from the rim of each can, otherwise the metal shavings will mix with the soup as you empty the contents of the can! They disappear into canned soup. or hide on a countertop in plain sight (just waiting to cling to whatever you put on it) if you're not careful. I believe it is an integral part of this style of can opener and I believe it is NOT a manufacturer fault. I recommend a can opener with a traditional gear.
