I wanted a toaster that toasted the outside instead of the inside. Cooking something faster and hotter will give you these results. This toaster has 1200 watts compared to 850, 900, rarely 1000 watts (2 slice toaster). So I liked the idea. The toaster looks good, too, being all metal except for the base, dial, and lever (the last button you touch is metal). The instructions do not mention incineration. I knew I had to get it outside and I'm glad I did. On first use, a plume of smoke escaped that would likely set off a smoke detector. There was also a gas outage, but it didn't smell that bad. I ran it about 20 times and everything seemed fine. The crumb drawer is weird. It's not a removable tray, it's a flap that opens downwards and you have to carry the toaster to empty it or pick it up and throw it on the counter and then clean it. Another odd aspect is that the holes are delicate but the bars that hold the toast in place are narrow. Regular old-fashioned bread that's a little thicker than thin-sliced sandwich bread fits just right. You can pull the lever and it will open just enough to fit. The grilles will open even wider if you open them manually with your fingers, but they must be fully open to begin with. How's the toast? Really good. The bottom and one side were slightly darker, but not by much to make a difference. It was exactly what I was looking for, medium roasted on the outside and softer on the inside and quick too.
