I used these to replace springs on 4 struts. Worked great even though I could only use one of the two teeth on either end. Otherwise, the device will interfere with removing or inserting a new rack, let alone compressing. But it works great with just one tooth on each end. You just have to be careful. I used an impact wrench for compression. Alternate between the two screws frequently to avoid pushing too hard on one side to keep the other from falling off. It worked like a charm and saved me a ton of money. Considering the size, I'm not sure if they will fit motorcycle shock absorbers. You'll probably want something much smaller for it if you're interested.
