Review on Fiskars 375581-1001 Chopping Axe: 28-Inch Black, Premium Quality by George Miller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good technology, made in Finland

Most of my gardening tools are made from Tabor, Truper, Gonicc or high carbon imported Japanese steel so when I think of Fiskars it seems" Home Warehouse" - hehe. In fact, Fiskar stuff is (usually) made in Finland and comes with a lifetime guarantee, so it's not that bad. . . What makes this ax work is the lightweight, hollow plastic handle. Because you're not swinging the weight of the handle, it gives more momentum to the tip of the axe. The blade is coated with a polymer to reduce friction and facilitate penetration. It's not razor sharp, but if it were it would dull easily, but it's sharp enough. Maybe I will buy more Fiskar products in the future. I have a professional petrol chainsaw (Stihl) and a 40 volt Greenworks chainsaw, so why an ax? It's because of the damn guinea fowl infestation in my backyard. After cutting 7 foot logs to about 8-10 inches off the ground, the armored root clumps can't even be broken through with a 5 pound hoe, so I need a chopping ax to chop the clumps into smaller chunks. so they can be pulled out of the ground - after spraying them with stump killer and waiting two weeks! I have an Eastwing camping ax but I needed something with a longer handle and more weight to penetrate root balls effectively so I went with Fiskars .

Pros
  • Patented blade sharpening technique provides a sharper edge for better contact and cleaner cuts
Cons
  • unreliable
