Review on 📡 Enhanced Beltronics V955 Radar Detector for Advanced Detection by Kyle Omaha

I just bought a Bel 955 to replace my Bel 980. From what I've read, the 955 offers all of the improved detection of Bel's pricier products, with some missing features you may have. not miss. Compared to my old 980, the 955 has far fewer false alarms and seems to pick up K and Ka radars much faster. It's also very easy to program, but to be honest the factory settings are great and don't require big changes. The new auto mute feature is very nice. When you do this you will get an alert at the volume you chose, then it will automatically turn down after a few seconds. What I didn't like is that they don't have a straight cord (just a short coiled cord), they reshaped the plug (now it's a phone plug) and moved the plug on the detector to the right side of the detector. My old detector was hardwired to the car and I couldn't use the existing cable/plug without buying an adapter directly from Beltronics. Last information. It has been posted that Beltronics will not provide the one year warranty if purchased from an "unauthorized" reseller like Revain. There's even a mention of it on Bel's website. Prior to purchasing from Revain, I emailed Bel asking if this policy covers purchasing directly from Revain or if it applies to Revain resellers. Here is Bela's answer: Thank you for your interest in Beltronics! Revain is authorized. But many times you get redirected to the reseller site they host. You may not see this unless you look closely at the page you landed on. We do not have authorized resellers on their reseller page. Sincerely, Customer Service Department. In summary, the 955 is a nice update to my old Bel metal detector with some new features, fewer false alarms and apparently better K&K detection. Update from 2/9/08: The device just died after 6 weeks of use. Suddenly not a single radar is detected! Return to Bel for repair. Very disappointed with the quality of this device. So my rating just dropped to one star! Update 03/29/08: Device received back from Bel in less than two weeks. The repair was carried out free of charge under warranty. As such, fears that Bel will not honor its warranty if purchased direct from Revain seem unfounded. The block now works better than ever. Let's hope it stays that way! Updated 04/07/12: After the repair in 2008, the device continues to work very well. It has been built into the car since purchase and has been exposed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the heat and cold that comes with being on the dashboard. I am happy to report that after 4 years the device is still working!
