I started my first embroidery project with a small hoop and some balls of DMC floss I bought at a craft store. I really liked it so I bought this kit to avoid having to go to the store. It comes with a lot of stuff, more than you really need for embroidery, but there are a few good general tools. Unfortunately the quality is not right. I wasn't able to get the hoops as tight as the ones I bought at the craft store. There is a wide variety of dental floss, but it is not as pretty as DMC. I was able to thread the needle with DMC thread without too much trouble, but it was almost impossible to thread this kit without a needle threader. One of the needle threaders broke a few hours after sewing. The thread in this set is much less slick and regularly catches on my fingers. I have found that I reuse DMC threads in the same colors as I do for other projects because they are so much easier to work with. I could try using the wax that came with the kit, but unfortunately it looks like I'll have to make one more trip to the craft store before my next big project.
