I connected a PX5 with Android 8: to my HU, downloaded the necessary apk and everything just worked (which is a good alternative to the usual difficulties of working with Android HU ). I only use the CarPlay feature so I can't comment on how well Android Auto works, but using an iPhone X running iOS 12 is very fast and smooth. The audio playback sounds the same as the sound of a native Android music app running on HU. Apple/Google Maps apps seem to use the main phone's GPS, which works very well. Furthermore, the forward/backward buttons on my steering wheel worked without any adjustment. I set up the device for a couple of weeks and used CarPlay exclusively during that time. It's a much better and more holistic experience than Android 8 on a head unit. The only thing I wish the device would support would be remappable buttons for other CarPlay features like Siri and the back button. When I press the voice control button in the AutoKit app it still brings up Google Voice Control and when I press the back button on the HU it exits the AutoKit app. It would be really nice to be able to map these controls to the corresponding CarPlay functions in the AutoKit app. The only thing I wish the device would support would be remappable buttons for other CarPlay functions, like Siri and the back button.
