I used a French Press before buying one for my coffee and it's amazing how much more flavor you can get out of a Chemex. In general it works great. Good quality glass. It doesn't stain and I've made coffee in it a few times a day for the week I've had it. I also once crashed into the edge of a closet pretty hard expecting disaster - to my surprise this thing is quite resilient. I expected more, but that's a mistake on my part. He makes two cups quite well and that's enough for me, so it worked. Although the markings on the side indicating the cups are slightly different than my cups. Although it's not really that important, I never refer to those lines. I wouldn't care if it didn't have lines. Another thing, I use regular coffee filters (like a dripper) and they gurgle when you pour water over the coffee, causing some to spit on the counter. I know these are probably the wrong filters, but that's what I have - just something to keep in mind. The wood and leather sleeve protects your hands from the heat when pouring. All in all, I'm very happy I bought this. The best coffee I've ever drunk is made from it.
