I use it to brew beer. To be more precise, "take away” flavors from my barrel range. The valve works as intended, you push and the pressure opens it. As it lifts, gravity grabs the valve and closes it again. I've read reviews of pulp getting in the way and haven't encountered it even with heavily fruity beers. (Wine may be different here). When you're ready to pour the aroma into your glass, the long section at the bottom of the valve gently pours the liquid back into the glass, with virtually no mess all the way to the sink.
