Really cool beer thief

Great way to take gravimetric samples. I use mine to taste beer during fermentation. I use a refractometer, not an areometer, but I can take enough sample to get a good idea of how the beer is developing and also check gravity.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Does the job but can be uncomfortable

Does the job. Mine broke at the top pretty soon after use but still usable. The plunger at the bottom can be quite awkward to loosen inside the bottle. It drips a little from the bottom, but not enough to make a mess. Basically it does what it should. If you're going to put a hydrometer in there, you'll need a fairly deep shot of wine. I use mine to transfer from a fermenter to a graduated cylinder.

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • No insurance

Doesn't work with 1 gallon bottles though

Great idea and works as intended, only problem is it doesn't work with any of the 1 gallon bottles I have - the clear plastic part fits but The neck, the part of the tip that connects it to the clear section, is slightly larger. I imagine this will work great once we move to 5 gallon bottles, but that's a bit of the future so I'll have to improvise for now until I find one that fits the 1 gallon size.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

It's great for testing my homemade bottled beer.

I needed a way to sample beer from a 6 gallon bottle to track specific gravity. I saw this on Revain and decided to try it and it works. It drips a bit but allows me to extract any sample size I want to test. I could return the sample to the bottle by squeezing the little lever on the side of the neck, but I don't. Why risk ruining a 5-gallon batch of beer just to test a few drops? It works and is a nice addition to your brewing tool kit.

  • Fingers crossed

However, it works well if you make wines from it.

Works fine, but if you're making wines from fruit rather than concentrates, you'll most likely end up with some pulp/seeds/etc. That's the problem - all this will silence the thief. Almost every time I use it, I keep tapping the top of the vial to keep the wine flowing. This can be quite annoying and time consuming, which is why I'm deducting two stars. After all, it does what it is supposed to and makes tasting your wine much easier and more hygienic.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Sad gear

I use it to brew beer. To be more precise, "take awayโ€ flavors from my barrel range. The valve works as intended, you push and the pressure opens it. As it lifts, gravity grabs the valve and closes it again. I've read reviews of pulp getting in the way and haven't encountered it even with heavily fruity beers. (Wine may be different here). When you're ready to pour the aroma into your glass, the long section at the bottom of the valve gently pours the liquid back into the glass, with virtuallyโ€ฆ

  • Good stuff

Great product but doesn't fit all pitchers

Without a doubt this is a 5 star product. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and does what it's supposed to do if you can put it in a jug! I use 1 liter jars. Now you obviously think that all one-gallon jars are the same. Well it isn't. The problem is that the inside diameter of the 1 gallon jars just has too much tolerance! Of the 9 I use, this only fits 1. What happens with the 8 that are too small is that the necks narrow over time while the top of the hole is a good size. I used my micrometer

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs
