The flutes on the "drill" portion of the tap are not sharp or aggressive enough to actually tap anything other than soft wood, so some extra force is required to start the tap. Because of this, I managed to break two of these on the first use. I went to the local hardware store and bought a cheap set of drills and taps not made in China and it worked the first time. The point is, it's garbage.
