I used wet sponges in soldering and they are not as good as Aoyue brass wire sponge. and promote rust. Cool the tip a lot when rubbing the tip against a (wet) sponge. Solder doesn't stick to sponges, water let alone wet/wet sponges so you usually have to touch the tip of the solder a few times. This brass wire sponge works well because it gives the solder something to "grip" to leave a soldering tip. It also only takes one hit. Its tip is still hot, so you can start soldering without worry. Not that it's a big deal, but it's annoying if you solder circuit boards for a living - every day. It's also easy to clean. I haven't cleaned mine in 4 months, but you don't have to either. Once you've cleaned it, simply pull the brass wire ball out of its holder and smack it against the inside of the bin - all the solder will fall off! The only negative I can say is that it is made in China. As much as I wish this quality product was made here, it is still an amazing product. Obviously you're in the market for something like this and if you've made it this far in my review, do yourself a favor and buy it.
