Review on Club 493 Tire Security Device by Chris Russell

When the thief isn't around it's a great product

My 7x14 tandem trailer was stolen in LESS than 4 minutes according to my neighbor's surveillance log. I had bought a good Club 491 hitch, padlock and tire claw in May 2010. It has held up well in all weathers for 5 years but when two thieves showed up during our holiday it didn't stop the thieves. . The video showed they used an angle grinder to partially cut off all three locks by just 1/4 inch and then used a pry bar to remove the hitch lock and the padlock on the hitch latch. They didn't even try to tear off the tire claw. They simply launched the tire claw on the rim with two partial cuts that took less than 10 seconds to cut. Three days later we found the remains of my trailer. "claw" just fell off. I give credit to the product. Judging by the fringe, The Club lasted some time. But that didn't stop the theft. Typical, say the police. The thieves don't care about the damage, they just want what's left on the side for a quick buck. When they have time, they cut up the trailer and sell it to metal recyclers. Insurance goes to home or rental car insurance. If you don't officially tell your insurance company the specific cost of the trailer, you'll all get a $200 check. Also, when using this product, be sure to install McGard Lugnut Locks on your rim. Police report that more than 50% of people who use products like the racquet forget to fix the rim. With a tandem axle trailer, simply remove the tire with the club on it. With single axle tires they often have a spare tire and put it on and go, so use McGard Lugnut Locks on the tire with the claw. The axle is locked with an Abloy PL362 Grade 6 padlock, an AMPLock hitch lock and an Abloy PL 330 for this hitch lock. I also get a trailer GPS tracker for $25 a month that connects to my smartphone and can send the GPS data to the police and police cruisers.
