Review on Morakniv Carving Right Handed Leather Sheath by Wendy Rodriguez

Mora likes rough edges

I have owned several Mora carving knives for over a decade including several double edged hook knives and several right handed ones that come in a 2 knife set. .As a left-hander, I learned long ago to be flexible and semi-symmetrical when using hand tools. But I wanted a left-handed hook knife that I could use to pull and push left-handed cuts (you can hold a right-handed left hand for a lot of movement). Some thoughts on this: The blade is not sharp. sharp enough to cut a finger, not even sharp enough to cut a linden tree for peeling, the blade is much thinner than my other hook knives. The machine sharpening on this knife is horrible - this thing requires extra work, completed with at least two stones, and then it's ready for a belt. The spine has never been deburred, polished or anything - it's a rough, ugly, twitchy looking scabbard/sheath that fascinates me that grips the blade too tightly - if you get sand in, you'll ruin the blade. Anyway after 1-2 hours of work on it, I've got a thing, workable but more in the flexcut knife category (flexxxxx emphasis) than what I'm used to from Pestilence. Basically, it makes me curious what 2cherries or pfeil has to offer in this style. I'd rather pay twice as much for something nicer. Honestly for a beginner I would recommend the flexcut options as they are at least polished.

Pros
  • Crafts and Sewing
Cons
  • I don't remember
