Review on 8-Inch CRAFTSMAN Diagonal Cutting Pliers πŸ”§ with Compound Action for Enhanced Performance (CMHT81718) by John Brouillard

Copes with its task on the pliers

I ordered this to replace an old MIT brand 6 inch wire cutter which has now been lost. I also have an Irwin 4" cutter, so the 6" cutter is needed when the size is needed for either extra leverage or more material to cut. I use this tool to cut jumper wires, small electrical wires, zip ties, etc. and it works great for my purposes. The grip is comfortable enough given that it's a limited use tool, but I found it a little tight in the very beginning (maybe at most the first 5%) of its opening rage and then again in the last maybe 20%. The middle of this is great for gripping if you can easily open and close it with one hand. A bit of ATF and a bit of breaking in basically fixes that, and maybe just leaves the last 10% a bit tight. I can't say anything about the durability of this tool. I had my previous cutter from MIT for about 15 years before I lost it and it never dulled. I don't abuse this type of cutter so I'm sure this one will probably last until lost as it appears to be of slightly better quality than the lost MIT. I didn't read any of the reviews before purchasing, but I read mine before leaving. Some complain that it's difficult to hold. I would disagree as this is an 8 inch tool which by definition has a wider bore compared to smaller ones. If you have to open it that far, I think you're using the wrong tool. As you approach a wider blade opening, what you are cutting is too big for the tool. Use small bolt cutters rather than side cutters. I have small, glove-sized hands and can easily operate it in the appropriate areas. The part of the action is small, as some have pointed out. While the difference is slight at best, every little bit helps reduce hand fatigue, so I'm glad to have it. metal, but either etched or just printed. It wipes clean easily, and the brand and part number can be very helpful as to the life of the tool. I've needed it for warranty claims, parts, and even the occasional quest for an old tool I didn't even know about. I can find it by the brand and part number. While this doesn't affect functionality, I don't like it.
