The split plastic container that this item comes in is just too small to properly accommodate the screws without the container bulging. This causes the lid to stick out, and when the container is turned on its side or inverted, washers and nuts run into adjacent tanks. Also, when closing the container, make sure that there are no screws or washers on the two containers preventing the lid from closing properly. The space problem will be solved when the items are used, but until then the lid will never lay flat. Too bad because with a larger container this could be a good buy.
