I am very critical of items designed to protect my child in the water. Not all products are made equal, but not all parents have $50-$75 for a lb that most likely will only be used in the pool. Let me just say that I am so pleased with this PFD that I would let my son use it on the boat if the opportunity arose. It is CG certified and I have confidence in this product. My son is 4.5 years old, 48 inches tall and weighs 58 pounds. Because of this device, he went from fear of swimming to diving to 10 feet. He had full range of motion in his arms and I think it's behind his back. completely flat with no bulk. He floated well with his back and had a built in "cushion" with a rescue handle, the foot strap took a little getting used to but once he was having his fun he completely forgot he was there.
