Great hack to minimize kids' Wi-Fi exposure while they sleep without turning off home Wi-Fi

Getting the light on these things is pretty tricky and it is important to read the instructions and/or watch the video on their website so you fully understand what the different light combinations mean. Once you understand this, these things become just amazing. We have weak WiFi at one end of the house and by using one of these on the computer we were able to increase the speed from 3 (Wi-Fi) to 75 (Ethernet over PowerLine). Now it works very well and reconnects every time we open the computer. One thing I noticed is that if the computer is not used for a few days, the connection drops. But it's very easy to pair them again just by pressing two pairing buttons for 2 minutes. I'm very glad I took the time to learn how to use these devices. This allows me to maintain a weak WiFi signal in our bedroom and still have computers available for Zoom training. We deliberately used an old wi-fi router in the longhouse and placed it on the opposite side of the house from the bedrooms. Then, if there is a computer in the bedroom, we turn off Wi-Fi to minimize the impact of Wi-Fi. I am grateful that we can minimize Wi-Fi loading while a child is sleeping while adults require Wi-Fi access late at night.

Pros
  • Plug and play, no new cables or setup needed
Cons
  • Piggy bank prize
