Laser range finders not accurate

I have a Bosch laser tape measure but if I don't remove the batteries they die within a few weeks. Not very practical, so I bought this laser meter for a lot less money. I want to enjoy it, but my trim measurements kept getting worse and I kept having to make multiple trims to get it right. I finally checked the measurements and this laser tape measure was definitely defective and that made no small difference. I'm not sure if there is a way to fix this. I can't find any instructions and I can't find them anywhere online. I had to go back to Bosch but now it's shorted out so I'm really having trouble with it. Also, I don't think I found instructions on how to change measurements to fractions, but I think I found them in one of the reviews. Converting it to fractions wasn't easy, but I did it. The only problem with fractions is that fractions are difficult to see without glasses. My eyesight isn't too bad, but it's almost impossible to see the shot in the semi-darkness. I could actually use this tape measure at this point in my build so I'm very frustrated and stuck. The dimensions are too big for me as an individual to measure with a tape measure.
