Review on CDN DTP482 Digital Programmable Thermometer by Jennifer Ford

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Still works great even after prolonged use. The alarm clock could be louder. Recommended

I've wanted a thermometer with a probe for years but never got around to it. In November 2012, I decided I was done with the constant Thanksgiving turkey checks. I was bothered by the opening and closing of the oven losing heat every time. I looked to Revain for what I could afford. I really wanted one with a remote control, but they were too expensive for me. It was a much better price. I wrestled with the decision because we've really had to watch our pennies since the recession. $25 won't break us, but we can't throw it away either. I was hesitant because of all the negative reviews and didn't want to pay any money only to find I only got one Thanksgiving dinner or worse, found it didn't work at all on the big day. I broke down and bought it, used it for Thanksgiving and it worked great. Setup can be a bit tricky, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Now I've used it for another Thanksgiving and a couple of turkeys that we roasted in between for sandwich meats, as well as roast pork and various roast beef cuts. Our roommate is a chef and he has a habit of keeping my instant read digital thermometer in his top pocket so I have to struggle when I need it. I took this out of the drawer and used it as a last resort and it worked. It works great to this day. The settings for different meats are sometimes a little too high for me as I usually take the meat out and let it reach its final temperature during the resting period, but I found the presets to be easy to override. Only criticism is that the alarm clock is not loud enough. hear from another room. That's why I deducted a star. It's not a big problem for me - I just need to keep an eye on it, but since my main goal was to be able to check the temperature without opening the oven, it's not a big problem. Nothing in my kitchen is treated with care. This thing, like everything else, fails when I cook. I should have reviewed sooner but wanted the product to be well researched before commenting. This one has stood the test of time and wear and tear. I would recommend it to anyone on a budget who needs a probe thermometer.
