July 2021 update. This reconditioned engine ran 12 months. The hull cracked, the engine failed. But for $32 you get what you pay for. Wow. I was skeptical. But this engine solved my problem. The original engine clutch was rusty and was the main reason why the engine could not disengage (spin) the caliper piston. It is not known how long it will last, but it will definitely fit my VW Passat. The main cause was corrosion of the o-ring groove on the aluminum caliper, which allows moisture to enter the motor gearbox/clutch. Be sure to clean the o-ring groove, replace the o-ring if necessary, and apply a small amount of silicone grease to the o-ring when reinstalling a new motor.
