Bosch's biggest mistake. GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE.

When Bosch changed the design of their clipping to the spark plug terminal with this rendition back Back in 2012 or so, after losing BMW as OE on ALL engines, I didn't realize at the time that this loss was due to something I'd learned the hard way: misfires are inevitable. This crazy silly engineering design that is a system throughout the line of these coils relies ONLY on the TOP/TIP between the coil element and the spark plug, as if the dimple surrounding the tip of every spark plug on the planet since 1907 has never had a purpose ! It MUST BE FULLY pinched, gripped and "snapping" the contact of a spark plug lead or coil to the spark plug. Otherwise, vibration, heat (expansion), time, dirt, and a dozen other failure elements prevent full microsecond bursts of energy from being radiated from the source to the connector, whatever that source may be. Bosch makes its poor engineering worse with a one-piece, tight-grip rubber hose that breaks away from the previous metal frame and specifically provides a watertight seal around the spark plug. The problem is that the tension this creates during insertion prevents the exact depth of the pad inside from fully engaging the end of the plug. You will never know if this is true or not until you start the car and look at all the code errors on OBDII. It's no surprise that BMW switched to DELPHI, which encased the original case in a metal tube and used a secure, fully enclosing fork tip contact clip, just like the Bosch original before they got silly. However, if you buy Delphi, you should know that just like Bosch, they have TWO sources of production: CHINA and EUROPE. After a lot of research I found out that ALL Delphi coils sold in the aftermarket for BMW vehicles are made in CHINA. What I did NOT want. But BMW dealers have nothing but Delphi coils made in Europe! Apparently BMW has contracted Delphi as the only supplier of coils made in Europe (Germany, Hungary, Slovakia etc)! Believe me there is a difference even if you can't see it. This is the only instance where a REAL BMW is 400% more expensive than just its bottom line. If you need ignition coils for your BMW that are NOT made in China, you will pay your BMW dealer TWICE as much as aftermarket Chinese made coils for an original BMW. Only here you can get original, correctly dimensioned spark plug coils in a metal case made in Europe. If you want to save half the cost, buy used and risk durability and performance. I spent the extra money not risking anything I only want to do once in my X5. In the LEFT picture, my original Bosch is on top and the Bosch version with the biggest flaw is on the bottom. RIGHT image - Delphi versions by BMW; and the only way.
