My 2nd grade daughter measures addition and subtraction. The idea is that children know the answer to 9+8 (for example) without even thinking about it. Her teacher said that even though she knew 9+8 equals 17, she had to write that number faster. The teacher recommended flashcards to increase speed. While flashcards are great, they're not that fun for kids. It's like electronic cards and my kid loves it. There is a map mode and a calculator mode. There are also different levels. So at level 1 there are simple kindergarten or 1st grade problems, and at level 8 there are problems that I had to think about during the second. My kid uses it for 10 minutes every night and I don't hear any complaints. She brought it to show the teacher and was impressed - she said it would make a great centerpiece for class. I am planning to buy one for the teacher to use in the classroom. I can't comment on durability as I haven't used it for a long time. This is a great product for both a child who needs help to improve their math skills and a child who is performing well and needs a challenging assignment.
