Review on Enhance Your Entertainment Experience with the Logitech Harmony 665 Advanced Remote Control by Eric Wohlman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great remote but cheap quality that doesn't hold up

A little background - I own an old Logitech 650 remote and have upgraded to the current Logitech 665 over the last few years a fairly complex two room home theater system including Pioneer SC-07 and VSX-59TXi Elite receivers, Marantz HD-DAC1 headphone amplifiers, Pioneer, Samsung and Panasonic plasma TVs, Oppo Blu-ray players, Pioneer Elite CLD-99 LaserDisc players, DirecTV and even a Roku Flash Drive. Logitech's library of electronics available for their line of remote controls couldn't be better. The (in my case Windows based) app for setting up and configuring the remote(s) has a bit of a learning curve and isn't 100% perfect. when it comes to organizing certain things like the placement or order of actions and devices in the LCD window, but for the most part I can get it to do most of the complex tasks and commands I want. The complaint about the 665 in particular has to do with the build quality of the console itself. It's really not durable, especially the 4 buttons on either side of the display window which are usually the most used. I'm not particularly big on remotes, but I've found that the 665 keys in particular last about a year before they stop working no matter how hard you press the key, obviously due to wear or breakage of internal parts. The old 650 remote seemed to have better build quality and lasted much longer than the 665. So I'd highly recommend this remote with the caveat that you'll probably need to replace it once a year.

Pros

Cons
  • Boring packaging
