Review on TP-Link EAP225-Outdoor Omada AC1200 Wireless Access Point by Mike Morris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very easy installation - just use the app

I have an EAP245 (AC1750) and I have just installed an EAP225 (AC1300) which is being used in my house. These are amazing products if you use the Omada app (Android). If you use this application you will lose some enterprise/industrial configuration settings but it makes the setup too easy compared to downloading the TP-Link EAP Controller software and running the configuration via Windows. I set up the EAP245 for the first time using the Windows software. Intuitively difficult and sometimes just plain painful. I reset it after setting it up and used the Omada app to set it up in less than 5 minutes. If you're just using it as a home hotspot and don't need all that extra stuff, I'd stick with the app. Either way, it's good to have a choice. I use them with a wired router and since my house was connected to the network I have one that covers the top and the other the bottom. I'll admit that in the age of Google Wifi and all mesh products, this option isn't for everyone, but I can't beat the speed for the price in my case. These are business grade access points and I hope they are built to last. The only downside I have regarding the EAP225 is that it is only powered via POE. However, it is positive that TP-Link puts a POE module in the box. To me this is cheating. The EAP245 can be powered via POE (in my case the module was not included) or via a standard socket. up.EAP225-Outdoor is a good device. Originally I wanted to install it outside to get a better signal in my backyard and patio as my other 2 APs are closer to the street side of my house. Instead I installed it in a closet in the house since I had a basic ethernet outlet and it was very close to the back of the house. I liked the antenna option for this instead of the ceiling mount option and I can take it outside in the future if I want to. noticed that WiFi transfer from hotspot to hotspot wasn't super smooth. Since installing them, I think they've gotten better (judging by my rudimentary testing), but now I have all kinds of control over hotspots that I didn't have before. I'll learn a little more about signal management and throttling.
